【摘要】:Thistestmethodisdesignedtocalibrateathermoelementatoneormoretesttemperatures.Thedataobtainedaresometimesreferredtoasinitialvaluesofemfbecausethetimeatthetesttemperatureislimited.Thistestmethodisemployedmainlybyprovidersofspoolsorcoilsofwireorstripofthermoelectricmaterial.Generallymorethanonespecimenatatimeistested,andtheresultantemfofindividualthermoelementsareusedtomatchtocompanionthermoelementsforuseasthermocouplesorinextensionwiring.Theemfofathermocouplecomprisedoftwodifferentthermoelementsastestedwiththistestmethodmaybedeterminedbyalgebraicallysubtractingtheemfofthenegativethermoelementfromtheemfofthepositivethermoelementataparticulartemperature.TheemfofathermocouplemayalsobedeterminedbythetestdescribedinTestMethodE220,butTestMethodE220doesnottakeintoaccountthevaluesoftheemfoftheindividualthermoelementsrelativetoPt-67.Thistestmethodisnormallyusedforthecalibrationofthermocouplematerialsduringtheirproductionordistribution,notfortheaccuratedeterminationofthepropertiesofausedthermocouple.Ifthetestsamplesweresubjectedtoprevioususe,thetestresultsmaynotreflectthesameemfasthethermocoupledidwhileinservice.Forexample,inhomogeneitiesmayhavebeeninducedinthewiresbecauseofachemicalormetallurgicalreactionwhileinservice.Sinceemfisdevelopedinthethermalgradient,anditisunlikelythatthetemperatureprofilealongthewireundertestingconditionswillbethesameasitwaswhileinservice,thetestresultsmaybemisleading.Thetestresultsaresuitableforspecificationacceptance,manufacturingcontrol,design,orresearchanddevelopmentpurposes.1.1ThistestmethodcoversatestfordeterminingthethermoelectricemfofathermoelementversusNISTplatinum67(Pt-67)bymeansofmeasuringthedifferencebetweentheemfofthetestthermoelementandtheemfofareferencethermoelement(previouslyreferredtoasasecondarystandard),whichhasaknownrelationshiptoNISTPt-67.1.2Thistestisapplicabletonewthermocouplematerialsoverthetemperaturerangesnormallyassociatedwiththermocouplesandtheirextensionwires.ThetableonSuggestedUpperTemperatureLimitsforProtectedThermocouplesinSpecificationE230liststherangesassociatedwiththeletter-designatedtypesofthermocouples.ASTMMNL-12liststhetemperaturerangeofextensioncircuitmaterials.1.3Thistestisnotapplicabletostabilitytestingorinhomogeneitytesting.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
